photoFriday, 12/4, 9pm: TOM PACHECO, with JIM WEIDER
Tom Pacheco is a passionate and imaginative songwriter – cast in the classic troubadour tradition that stretches back through centuries of song – launching poetic comment upon the tides of the time, flavors of life, and the wonder of it's circumstance. He is truly one of America's great songwriting treasures. At age 10, Tom was tutored by his father, jazz musician Tony Pacheco, on classical and jazz guitar. But, it wasn't long before Tom fell under the spell of Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan. Since then, Pacheco's songs have been covered by Jefferson Starship, the Band, Rick Danko, Richie Havens, and dozens of European artists. ... more | tickets

photoSaturday, 12/5, 9pm: THE CLANCY TRADITION
The Clancy Tradition's origins are found in Ireland in the 1950s, when the Clancy family of Moy, County Tyrone, formed a Ceili Band, playing at Irish country dances and concerts throughout Ireland. In 1960, brothers Pat, Eugene and Brendan Clancy left to tour the USA as the Irish Ramblers, playing at clubs like Gerde's Folk City & Carnegie Hall(!), and recording for Electra. Their musical tradition is currently being passed to the next generation with "The Clancy Tradition": Eugene Clancy on guitar & vocals, his daughter Rosemary Clancy on fiddle & mandolin, Eugen's son John Clancy on bass, Pat Clancy on piano & accordion, his daughter Liadain Clancy singing and Mike Melanophy on button accordion. ... more | tickets

photoSunday, 12/6, 3pm matinee: GUITAR STARS Recital,

photoFriday, 12/11, 9pm: RHETT MILLER; with special guest The Trapps
For almost ten years now, Rhett Miller has balanced a solo career with a band career, as both the leader of the rock band Old 97's and as an acclaimed singer-songwriter in his own right. Last year, the Old 97's released their seventh album, Blame It On Gravity. Now, just a year later, Miller returns with his fourth solo record, the self-titled Rhett Miller. Like every record that Miller is involved in, it's tuneful, memorable and smart. Unlike the other records, though, this one cuts deep – sometimes to the bone. As the title suggests, this album represents Miller's most personal statement in a career that has spanned more than a decade. ... more | tickets

photoSaturday, 12/12, 9pm: LIVINGSTON TAYLOR; with special guest Joe Crookston
Livingston Taylor, one of the most distinctive singer-songwriters of the last thirty+ years, embodys both down-home sensibility as well as urban sophistication. Taylor is a throwback to the roots of folk singing: the back porch storyteller, invoking the historical lessons of earlier generations and a lifetime of experiences to the wonderment of a transfixed audience. As a member of one of the most successful and reknowned musical families since the Von Trapps, Livingston has taken what could be considered a tremendous burden, and transposed it into a lifetime of personal artistic success & accomplishment. To see him and to hear him play is to be welcomed into Liv's musical home. ... more | tickets

photoSunday, 12/13, 7:30pm: Musical Heritage Night,
celebrating the music & message of PHIL OCHS
Hosted by Phil's sister, Sonny Ochs; featuring Kim & Reggie Harris, Greg Greenway, Magpie, John Flynn, Jeffry Braun and Steve Kirkman
The music of the late Phil Ochs shaped an entire generation. His classics like "There But For Fortune" and "I Ain't Marching Anymore" remain as relevant and inspiring today as they were back in the '60s. It's sure to be an inspirational night, with each performer singing one of Phil's songs and one original, interspersed with plenty of anecdotes and reflections on Phil's life and legacy. ... more | tickets

photoFriday, 12/18, 9pm: CHRISTOPHER ROBIN BAND
Since Christopher Robin picked up the guitar and taught himself how to play at the age of 14, his musical roots have included personal lessons from artists like Michael Hedges, Gregg Allman, Wayne Henderson and Garth Webber – yet his tone, chord structure, feel, searing solos and sense of melody remain truly his own. "All of my songs are true stories. I've had residency in seven different states, and there's been a lot of stories. They're about all the things I've done – from sailing on tall ships, to being a cowboy in Colorado, to playing for Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses in Europe and the Hells Angels in California, to your typical love-on-the-rocks kind of thing." He's a high-energy crowd pleaser. ... more | tickets

photoSaturday, 12/19, 9pm: THE BOBS
Manhattan Transfer meets Monty Python...Robin Williams meets Bobby McFerrin...J.S. Bach meets Jimi Hendrix: Grammy-nominated vocal acrobats (and certifiable nutjobs) THE BOBS return to the Towne Crier! This original "band without instruments" has been skewering the classics, breaking all the rules and clear-cutting their own unique path in the world of vocal music for over 25 years, playing everywhere from Lincoln Center to Berlin's Passionkirche. To quote one reviewer, "...the Bobs still shine, breaking new ground each time they tunnel out of the sanitorium. The twin keys to the group's creative safe deposit box are unflagging dedication to vocal excellence and utter disregard for everything else." ... more | tickets

photo Sunday, 12/20, 7:30pm: CHERISH THE LADIES
A Celtic Christmas
This will be a very special evening, celebrating the release of Cherish The Ladies' new Christmas album, A Star In The East. This promises to be an especially great evening for families – Joanie and the girls are even planning a couple sing-alongs! When describing Cherish The Ladies, the critics say it best: "It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn't enjoy what they do" (Boston Globe); "An astonishing array of virtuosity" (Washington Post); "Expands the annals of Irish music in America...the music is passionate, tender and rambunctious" (NY Times). For the past eighteen years, Cherish the Ladies have proven themselves worthy of these accolades. This powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture – especially the knack for humor ... more | tickets

photoSaturday, 12/26, 9pm: AZTEC TWO-STEP
Aztec Two-Step's debut album was named one of the top five classic folk albums by Real Simple magazine in '07, joining work by Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Tom Rush and Phil Ochs, also "surpassing Simon and Garfunkel for exquisite harmonies, musicianship and emotion." Their music was a staple of progressive FM and college radio, helping to bring the music of the 1960s into the '70s. Aztec Two-Step continues to impress audiences with their shimmering, intricately textured twin guitar sound, as well as their intelligent songwriting ~ old & new ~ and their inspiring harmonies. ... more | tickets

photonew showSunday, 12/27, 7:30pm: RHETT TYLER
Rhett Tyler ~ guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and producer ~ is best known for his explosive style of scorching modern blues guitar and high-octane, house-rocking live performances. His music is certainly rooted in the tradition of blues, but Rhett also incorporates jazz, rock and gospel influences to create an innovative modern musical blend with his signature guitar style. Rhett has shared billing with many distinguished blues artists, including Johnny Winter, Delbert McClinton and John Hammond. John Swenson of Rolling Stone calls Tyler "a powerful front man, in the tradition of Johnny Winter [and] Jimi Hendrix. Rhett Tyler is the certain face of future blues." ... more | tickets
