Margaret McDuffie is a singer-songwriter from the Hudson Valley. A woodworker by day, Margaret began playing guitar and singing in San Francisco. Back on the East Coast and the Hudson Valley in 1990s, she played the open mic circuit including Towne Crier in Pawling. Alongside her original songs, she delved into the American songbook and spent fifteen years singing jazz standards. She has performed at several venues in the region, sometimes as a jazz trio and more recently with a full band playing her own music. She released her first album at the new Towne Crier in 2015, and now her third release, “Dreamers of Atlantis,” is at #32 on Roots Music Report’s Top 50, and #46 on the FAI Folk Chart.
The influences run deep, spanning from the dry, earthy strains of early folk and blues through the staccato echoes of mid-century rockabilly to the lushness and color of modern rhythm & blues.
For this Salon, Margaret will perform songs from her new release and other music, old and new, with herself on guitar, Art Labriola on piano & lap steel, and Lew Scott on bass.
